League City Hurricane Beryl Resources

July 12, 2024

Homes for sale in League City

We hope all of our residents and surrounding neighborhoods are safe and doing well. For local Hurricane Beryl resources, please review the information by leaguecitytx.gov below.

Separate Storm Debris, Set at the Curb

Updated July 11: The City of League City has activated our pre-positioned storm debris removal contractor and residential debris pickup will begin in the coming days. To make the debris removal process more efficient, we are asking residents to separate their debris and set it at the curb. Please keep in mind that due to the large amount of storm debris throughout League City, this process will take several weeks. We ask for your patience and cooperation as we work to get all storm debris cleaned up.

Debris Pickup Process

The debris removal company will pick up large, unbagged vegetative debris as well as fencing/construction debris. AmeriWaste will pick up bagged green waste every Sunday beginning July 21. There is also an option for residents to drop off their bagged green waste daily at Hometown Heroes Park starting July 13 (see below).

Debris Separation Guidelines

Do NOT place storm debris in the middle of the street, in stormwater drains, inlets, or ditches. Keep a 10-foot radius clearance from fire hydrants to ensure fire protection for your neighborhood. When debris pickup begins, please move your vehicle(s) off the street and into your driveway to ensure trucks can safely maneuver. No bagged food or household hazardous waste can be included with your debris.

Place your storm debris in three separate piles at your curb:

Large, unbagged vegetative debris (trees, tree limbs, etc.). Bundle small branches when possible. Large tree limbs do NOT need to be bundled.

Fencing/construction debris.

Bagged green waste (leaves, small branches, etc.).

Separate Storm Debris at the curb: large vegetation, fencing, and bagged green waste.

Bagged Green Waste Curbside Pickup

Beginning Sunday, July 21, AmeriWaste will start weekly pickups of bagged green waste from residential customers. These pickups will continue every Sunday for several weeks and will only include bagged vegetation (leaves, small branches, etc.). Pickups will be completed one area at a time, until they have serviced all residences.

Bagged Green Waste Drop-Off at Hometown Heroes Park

Beginning Saturday, July 13, residents can drop off their bagged green waste (no other storm debris will be accepted) at Hometown Heroes Park. Drop-offs will take place in the large westside parking lot adjacent to Dickinson Avenue. Please bring your driver’s license as proof of residency. Hours for bagged green waste drop-off will be daily from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. until further notice.

Household Trash

To keep the debris pickup process efficient, please separate your trash bins/bags and recycling bins away from any vegetative or storm debris. Garbage cans, bags, and recycling bins should be placed on the curb during your regularly scheduled AmeriWaste collection day.

All City parks are open except for the following: Lobit, Dr. Ned and Fay Dudney Nature Center, and Lynn Gripon Park at Countryside.

City Waiving Storm Repair Permit Fees -  Click here for more information.

From now until August 31, the City's Building Department is waiving permitting fees for homeowners making repairs due to Hurricane Beryl. Permit fees that will be waived include:

  • Roof repairs
  • Structural repairs to homes
  • Siding
  • Windows/exterior doors/garage repairs
  • Fences eight feet and over

Does your contractor have a permit?

After storms such as Beryl—and in general— homeowners are often approached by contractors offering all kinds of repairs, replacements, or additions. In the past, much of this work has not been permitted. The City's Building Department wants to ensure that all work requiring a permit has one and that contractors are registered with the city.

Watch Out for Contractor Scams

Many League City residents experienced damage from Hurricane Beryl and need home repairs. Please beware of scams. Oftentimes scammers will use natural disasters as an opportunity to take advantage of vulnerable people.

Here are tips to avoid getting scammed:

  • Request a detailed description of the work to be done and cost of materials needed.
  • Get a start and completion date.
  • Do not pay for work in full up front.
  • Make sure the contractor and subcontractor pull permits.
  • Ask the contractor for proof of City registration.
